Basalt has many of the same properties as granite; it is rock solid, it has a  good wear and weather resistance,
it does not fade and it is very easy to maintain.
Basalt is frost resistant and therefore very suitable for outdoor applications.
The coarser finishes - such as fluted, flamed or bush hammered - are used on terraces. 

But indoors is also possible. Patinated or honed finishes are then preferred.
