Granite as floor
Granite lends itself mainly to floor. It is very durable and it can be well maintained. This because its hardness and the small water permeability.
Depending on where granite is used, the finish is different.
A polished and honed finish is used indoors.
Granite terrace & garden
Depending on where granite is used, the finish may be different.
Bush-hammered and flamed will be used on terraces.
In rain or winter weather, the light structure on the natural stone tiles creates an anti-slip effect.
Granite & finishes
A flamed tile is a tile where the surface is treated with fire so that there are minimal pieces to jump off. This is less rough than bouchading, it has a quieter view and there is less chance of moss formation.
See this example with a slightly flamed version.
Using honed tiles outside is discarded money. The sweetening will fade over time due to the weather conditions.
Or you have to repeat the sweetening regularly.
When bouchading a tile, pieces are tapped from the surface with a bouchading hammer. The 'rough' surface is therefore stiff and safe in the rain. However, the disadvantage is that if the terrace is shaded,
moss formation will be easier.
